What is Permanent Cosmetics?

 

Permanent cosmetics or micro pigmentation is the implantation of colored pigments into the dermal layer of the skin. The procedure is performed with a tattoo method using needles to place pigment into the skin.

When the procedure is completed, the color will appear darker than the final result. The color in the top layer of skin will flake off during the healing process and you will see a lighter color. The new color will not smear, smudge or wear off.

How long will the Procedure Take?                                                           

From start to finish you will need about  1 to 2 hours.  This includes the time needed for numbing, filling out forms and choosing colors.  The actual tattooing takes 20 to 45 minutes,  depending on the procedure.  If you wear contacts you must remove them for the procedure and cannot put them back on afterwards.  Make sure to bring eyeglasses if you need them to see. 

 

 

 

Are Permanent Makeup Procedures Painful?

 

Individual pain tolerance differs greatly.  Effective topical anesthetics are used to numb the skin before and during the procedure to minimize any discomfort.

Are Touch-Ups Necessary?

Touch-ups are likely necessary.   We recommend you schedule a follow up appointment 3-6 weeks after your procedure so that the technician can give you a professional assessment.  For lip procedures you will need to take a prescription antiviral medication, such as Valtrex, before each procedure if you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters to avoid a possible outbreak.

What Should I Do to Prepare for My Procedure?

• Alpha-Hydroxyl Acids (AHA’s), steroid creams and any other skin peels should be avoided for 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

• Any waxing or tweezing should be done at least a week prior to procedure to minimize any irritation.

• Avoid alcohol, aspirin, or anything else that may thin blood for at least 3 days prior to your appointment, with your physicians consent.   If you are on blood thinners talk to your physician about your permanent cosmetic plans before your consultation.

• If you have ANY history of cold sores (herpes) or fever blisters you need to obtain a prescription medication from your physician such as Zorivax, Famvir, or Valtrex prior to any lip procedure. This medication should be taken at least 2 days prior, the day of, and 2 days after your lip procedure so you can avoid any outbreaks. If you insist you have no history of cold sores, you will be required to sign a Cold Sore Release form before your lip procedure.

• If you have diabetes, a heart condition, or other such serious medical condition you MUST obtain a signed note of approval from your physician written on the physician’s prescription pad which states that your doctor consents to your chosen permanent makeup procedure(s).
